This project started in Morganton, North Carolina while celebrating the Guatemalan people that migrated to the small mountain town during the civil war in Guatemala in the 1990s. To get a deeper understanding of the culture and it’s people, I traveled to Todos Santos to meet with Mayan coffee farmers. We listened to their need for higher payment for their coffee and the difficulties of shipping their coffee to the United States. We met with family members of those who found work in Morganton and shared good news about their children in the U.S. This project will continue to look at the Guatemalans in the small southern town of Morganton, and how they are finding a new identity and home.
